A comfy chair

There is nothing better than a comfy chair.  I love this leather chair that is in my living room.  The quilt on the back was made by my great grandmother.  The needlepoint pillow was found at a discount store for $7.50.  The great thing about it is our last name is Snider.  Since I got this chair I have been adding some darker colors in to my red, gold and ivory scheme.  I love what richness it has been adding to my room.

Another comfy chair in my house was my Dad's childhood chair.  It is such a great piece to add when decorating.  I have it with a couple of antique crocks in my unworkable fireplace.  Unfortunately my three year old my 3 year old has other ideas.  He pulls it out because it is his comfy chair.

Oh Happy Day!

Oh happy day,  I went out yesterday to search for some good antique finds.  I drove 30 minutes to an antique shop I have always wanted to stop at, she has everything in her garage.  Just what I like to do search.  So I found some good items.  I was particular happy about the crock she sold to me for $10 bucks, one of my favorite things and what a buy.  I then traveled another 30 minutes down the road to a great antique mall in an old piano factory and a cute little antique and design shop.  I spent a total of 60 dollars, here is what I found.  So I had no problem finding a home for everything.  Here are just a couple examples.   Happy Shopping!!

When will the night shift end

It is 12:50 in the morning and I can not go to bed.  I am totally obsessed with this blog right now.  My husband is working the night shift, he is a Sgt. on a police department  here in our area.   I have to get up for work at 6:30, I am  a General Manager at a retail establishment.  Our career schedules do not make good bed fellows.   So our bedroom is on the first floor, and the three kids bedrooms are upstairs.  He usually retires to my stepdaughters room to sleep duirng the day.  Since my stepdaughter is off at college I switched her bed with my sons.  I switched his Jenny Lynn bed with her's so his super duper bed tent would fit.  So today I busted my husband in the tent trying to catch some quiet ZZZZs .   I am going to be in trouble for posting that!!!   Gotta love night shift, hopefully he will be among the living soon, with the morning shift.   Sweet Dreams!!

My Dad's Work

My Dad passed away on April 29th, it has been a long road since that day.  I finally have found the focus and interest again to do what I love , work around my house.  My Dad was a woodworker and he made so many wonderful things, it is great to have them.  So my focus is now pointed to sprucing up my mantel and brick fireplace.  It is so special  because my Dad made the mantel and found the stained glass window.  He cut the edges off and put eyehooks in so I could hang it.  My Dad found a great piece of wood for the mantel.  I never understood until now why he enjoyed shopping in a lumberyard for wood;  it was his passion.                                                

New Day

I was so inspired the other day by a blog I ran across by accident.   It

had all the things I cherish, family, decorating, and a love of things old.

I then saw a list of favorite blogs all focused on similar things.  I was

now inspired to create my own blog.  So first came the name for three

different reasons.  My parents cottage on the river in Michigan, my love

of  cottages and living right by the Ohio River.

My husband and I are the third owners of a house built in the 20's

I have two great step children and a 3 year old son Griffin.  He keeps

our house in constant motion.  Add a golden retriever and two cats, and

there is never a dull moment in our home.
