Little Treasures

I was at my Mom's today helping her go through some things of my Father's.  I came home with a small box of things.  Here is a list of items.

1.   A handful of old black and white photos of my family.

2.   A couple of lesson books my Dad had as a kid.

3.   Two cigar boxes, one filled with old dominoes, dice and charms.

4.   My Grand Dad's old pipe

5.   A cow bell from my Great Grandparents farm in Illinois

6.   Poems my Great grandfather wrote and printed (He was  poet and owned a printing press.)

I have such wonderful ideas for these treasures.

Off for a weekend trip

I am headed off to my cousin's wedding.  We are traveling about five hours away to Illinois.  My favorite aunt the bride's grandmother wrote me a poem on my wedding day.  I wanted to pass it on to her so I altered the poem a bit and added the finishing touches.   I got the wonderful gold charms and french flashcard is from www.speckled-egg.blogspot.com . Hitting the Antique Shops

Onmy days off I wish I could chill and take a long nap, like my lovely cat Nip.  I was out today at some garage sales and some antique shops.  The garage sales were horrible, why did I get up at 8:30 to race to them.  Check out my loot from a several antique shops.  My shopping companion was my three year old son.  He has an old soul he spent the whole day antiquing.  He had a good day, an old toy telephone and two play cars. 

I should be in bed but I am doing this!

I should be in bed.  I am going to try to get up for early morning garage sales , a new antique shop and my favorite shop, my Mom's attic!

I have been messing with this vignette for I think weeks, I added a plate, books, and switched prints above my table.

Kentucky

I live in such a beautiful state.   We live in Northern Kentucky right across the river from Cincinnati.  The community I live in is about 5 minutes from downtown and about 5 or 10 minutes from the country.

We have the best of both worlds. "Tucky" as my son calls it is such a beautiful state.  From fields of tobacco to gorgeous horse farms.  It is always fun to jump in my husbands jeep with the top down and drive the back roads of our beautiful county.  Here are a couple pictures from a recent drive.   There are so many old barns they are such a lovely site .

Great website

I found this website the other night, it is gorgeous.  It is located in the my cousin's home town.  We are headed there for his daughter's wedding this weekend.  I would love to go through her warehouse of "Euro trash"  I have already emailed to see if they are open to the public.  I remember reading about her house in Country Living.  If you have  a back issue of Country Living May 2006 and March 2007 check it out, it is just gorgeous.    Her web site is www.euro-trash.us/eurotrash.html

Working the Weekend

I have certain withdraw if I do not fiddle around in my house.  Moving furniture, reworking vignettes, and looking for new finds.  On my last day off Thursday I cleaned my basement out.  May I add it was very bad.   It was probably 3 days work and I did it in one, I was very sore yesterday.  I cleaned up and organized a craft room area downstairs, which I have been trying to do since 2004.   So I have not had my decorating or shopping fix this week.  And off to work I go for the weekend.  Love my job hate the weekends.  I will be working on some merchandise displays this weekend to get my fix.  Below is a vignette on my gate leg table.  I found this container I think I will use it as a vase for some flowers.   I am inspired from ideas at  www.cherrysjubileehome.blogspot.com.   She has done the cutest things with MS letters, it is a great idea.  Thanks for the inspiration Cherry!

 

First day of preschool

It was my son Griffin's first day at pre school.  I had to work so my husband dropped him off and the bus dropped him off at our childcare provider.  My husband called to provide play by play.  He got to the door and Griffin said " See you later Dad I like this school"  He flew in the door and my husband was on his way.  He could not help but comment about all the Mom's taking pictures and delaying their departure.  I asked oh you should have had a camera.  There was a laugh on the other end of the phone.  I am taking him to and fro tomorrow.  Griffin is not happy about missing the bus ride!  So it was the first of many many more feelings of my little boy growing up!  I will be hiding that camera in my purse for sure.
