More Treasures and a Crown

I have been helping my Mom go through things of my Dad 's since he passed away.  My Dad was a pack rat of sorts he kept everything.  We found in his desk every hotel and key card he kept through his many travels.  He also kept every credit card he ever owned.  I could go on an on.  He had so many neat things hidden away.  My Mom has also used this time to clean out her closets and the attic.  So yesterday I came home with some more treasures from her house.  In earlier posts I mention all the goodies she has given me.  She is such a wonderful Mom, the best!   

I got to see the almost finished product of my Mom's kitchen.  She remodeled the whole thing.  Beautiful cabinets, a beautiful desk area, and granite counter tops.  My Dad picked out the wood for the Desk it is gorgeous.  She just had the kitchen painted in red and yellow.  I am going to take some pictures this weekend to share.

I made a cute little crown for my niece Hannah Marie, she is the sweetest thing.  She is getting ready to redesign her room in horses, she loves them.  My Mom and I gave her my old riding hat for her room, she was so excited.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!  My husband and I are off together this weekend, it rarely happens.  I can hardly wait!!!

A New Family Member and a Finished Project

In my last post I showed pictures of Griffin's room and the idea of getting his room complete.  It did not happen.  I think sometimes I bite off more than I can chew (no I know I do).  My Mom could not get over to make the window treatments and I just dismissed painting the closet for the day.  I did have a productive day I cleaned and brought home a new kitten to our home at 125 Grant St.  My husband and I wanted to add another one to the already crazy house.  Griffin named him Otis and Oti for short.  Very cute little baby cat as G says.  I finished the banner for his room.  We also made something for his sweet teacher.  Hopefully I will find the energy next weekend to complete his room.  I hope everyone has a great week!  Bristol

Cowboys on my Brain!

This week is the week that I am finishing up Griffin's room.  I was going to take down the wall paper but I have decided to keep it, it really is not that bad.  My Mom is coming over to make shades for his windows.   His room sits in the front of the house and has two large windows that take up one wall.  His room is not very big,  It has two closets on one wall that have folding doors.  I am going to paint them and somehow add a memo board and paint one door with blackboard chalk.  I am trying to find some vintage cowboy comforters, sheets or a bed skirt.  We are going for a cabin/cowboy kind of theme.

Happy Birthday Grif

It is so hard to believe that my little boy is turning four today.  We have been celebrating I think for a week.  Last weekend we had a party and sleepover with cousins.  Yesterday my stepdaughter took Griffin and his friend Kylie to Chucky Cheese's.  So all in all he had a great 4th birthday.  I found this poem my Great Grand Dad wrote, Baby Days.  This picture is of Griffin when he was 2 and still had those sweet baby cheeks.  So Mommy is sad that her boy is growing up and he is overjoyed to be a BIG boy.  All day he has been informing me "Mom I am a lot 4 today".  Hope everyone has a great week!

Baby Days

My little boy, with sunny smile, I wish you'd stay a long, long while;  For hand and hand I like to roam with you to bring the cattle home, Where tadpoles play and red birds sing and whistle willows grow in the Spring.  Let's build more castles in the sand before you go to grown up land.  I'll miss you in the days to be- Not running down the lane to me to help God finish twilight's charm by riding on Daddy's arm.  And I'll be lonesome after while when there will be no baby's smile or good night kiss, or little hand when you are gone to Grown Up Land.

My Kitchen

When we moved into our house four years ago it was a dated mess.  We got such a great deal on the house that we overlooked the much needed changes.  Little by little things get marked off the list.  I tried to cut some cost a few years ago and paint my kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them.  What a chore that was.  If you ever think about painting cabinets be sure to use Zinser 123 primer it was the the key to the success.  It took me the whole summer but I got them completed.  We changed the flooring, appliances and had my Mom wallpaper.   One of my favorite things was painting the door to the basement in black chalkboard paint.  It worked out really well, the kids love it.   Last night I took some pictures to share with you.  I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I know that I will since my crazy work week is almost complete!

Work, a Quick Post and a Poem

I hate those weeks where I am all consumed with work.   Well I am having one of those weeks.  I am preparing for a corporate visit at my store.  My family and employees hate these visits.  I become a psycho perfectionist, working my fingers to the bone and dreaming about it at night.  My visit is tomorrow , so wish me luck!!

My Mother gave me two treats this past weekend.  The rooster container was my Birthday present.  I was lucky enough to get this beautiful cabinet that no longer "worked" in her house.

I also came across this Fall poem my great grandfather wrote.

Golden Rod

LET us take a while to wander while the golden rod is here, Off across the pasture, yonder, for the Autumn days are near.

Somehow, goldenrod brings nearer happy days that used to be.  And it makes the old paths dearer that you've shared with me.

It's Hard to get in the Halloween Spirit

It's so hard to get into the Halloween Spirit, I think it was in the high 80's today.  Fall is my favorite time of year.  It is about this time that we have our fire pit working overtime and those sweatshirts are getting a work out.  So I have had to force myself in the mood during my favorite time of year.  I finished my hat for the Speckled Egg party hat halloween swap and that got me in the mood, so I decorated my front porch for the season.  Have a great fall weekend, no matter what weather comes your way!  Bristol
