Vacation, swaps and a craft room

Oh yes I have one week at work and then I am starting a vacation.  A vacation of organization.  I usually take my vacation in April to do projects around the yard.  This year I am taking it early to get some much needed organization around the house and spring cleaning.  The pas couple months I have been in a rut not really wanting to do much of anything.  Well its time to move on and get back in the groove.    I want to add some life to my little craft area in the basement.  We live in a house built in the 20S.  The basement is unfinished and nothing exciting.  I do have an area that is separated with large cabinets.  There is a workbench and peg board frame against the wall.  My neighbor is the washer and dryer.  I am going to do some painting and try to find a way to close the little room off a bit more.   

I got inspiration when I saw Lori Oles at www.vintageflair.typepad.com share her craft closet.  A small space but packed with flair of course.  So it got me thinking about my little area.

I am so longing for spring.   I love this dinnerware I found at www.madisonavegifts.com so spring, so pretty.  What a great table that would be for Easter.

We celebrated my Mom's 70TH birthday last week.  The decorations I made turned out so well.  It was such a fun time.   My Dad's birthday was on Feb 14th and it was sad not having him there.  He passed away last April, we miss him so much.

There is still room in the Kentucky Derby Hat Swap.  I am taking sign ups until Friday Feb 29th.

Kentucky derby hat swap

I was born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio.  When I graduated from high school I decided to attend Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond Kentucky.  Every year we would plan to attend derby parties, so much fun.  I am still a Kentucky girl and we love the derby here.  I thought it would be fun to have a derby hat swap.   Here are the details. 

The swap will consist of 40 participants.  I will take sign ups up to 40 or until Friday Feb 29th.   I will assign partners by March 6th.  You will mail your hats directly to your partner. 

Hats are such an important part of the derby, ladies really go all out.  They range wild to calm and they are all beautiful.  So in this hat swap anything goes.  Find out your partners likes first and then design your hat.  The style of the hat is your choice, it can be a crown or hat.   Here are some ideas.  Wire or paper crowns or tiaras, paper mache hats, and old vintage hat decorated.   If you decide to use a store bought hat,  it must have your touch in some way.  I will post some examples in a late post. 

Your hats will need to be mailed by Monday April 21st, so they can reach your partner by Friday May 2nd.   Remember to take pictures of your hats before you send them.  On Friday May 2nd post a picture of your hat.  I Will have 3 judges not participating in the swap to pick out a Win, Place and Show.   They will look at creativity, and craftsmanship.  There will be three fun prizes for the winners.  On Friday May 2nd I will host a fun Derby party with links to each of your blogs.  I will announce the three winners on Saturday May 3rd.

On March 7th I will send an email out to you with your partners name and info.  I will also include an information sheet.  This swap will sure to be a lot of fun so please sign up.  Tell your friends, tell everyone~   When signing up please email (bcottage@hotmail.com) me your  NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS, BLOG, AND HOME ADDRESS.  Attached is a swap button. Secret Admirer swap

I participated in Jenn and Cheryl's secret admirers swap.  We were to post a picture on our blog of our package we sent.  My partner was Suzy Dezarn.  I hope she got everything and enjoyed.  I hope everyone enjoys their day.  I am off to a preschool party, with their craft to make in hand.    Happy Valentines Day!

Why do you need a pound of glitter

Do you have something in your craft closet that just works for you?  That would be my crystal glitter from my favorite local craft store.  It adheres so well to everything it is just a staple to me.  I dropped by to pick up  a pound of crystal glitter.  Don't you know they were out.  They were nice enough to call some of their other stores.  A pound of crystal glitter was found, I can pick it up on Tuesday. " Why do you need a pound of glitter if you don't mind me asking"?  Well this is why~~

My Mom's 70th birthday is next week.  This is a photo of her at age 4 .  I am going to use this for decorations.  That crystal glitter is going to make her shine~~

Valentines Day

Valentines Day is almost here.  My husband and I have never really gone over the top for this particular day.  The valentine day gift has kind of become a joke here on Grant St.  Let me set the scene its about 3 am and a bunch of police officers forget that tomorrow is Valentines Day.  So what is open?  Well Walgreen's is of course!!  At least he remembers right?  Well this year we are going to drop some hints, lets see what happens.

It's almost spring and that means lots of yard work.  I need some new wellies, to muck around in the mud with.

The last couple ideas are really easy anything from One Hundred Wishes shop it opens back up tomorrow.  I know she used to have this wonderful glue there.  It smells like almond, yum.  She opens back up tomorrow at noon I can hardly wait~ www.onehundredwishes.com.
